SERVICE DISRUPTIONS: Fremantle Line train services 4 to 7 July 2008

Transperth train services between Daglish and Fremantle will be cancelled from the evening of Friday 4 July until Monday 7 July due to Karrakatta underpass works.

The last trains to run from Perth to Fremantle on Friday 4 July will be:
• to Fremantle departing Perth at 7pm
• to Perth departing Fremantle at 7.31pm
and will resume with the start of services on Monday 7 July
Train replacement bus service 906 will pick up commuters between Daglish and Fremantle at the train replacement stops near train stations while services are cancelled. Normal train services will run between Perth and Daglish.

Passengers should allow extra travelling time and be aware that train replacement buses may not connect with normal bus and train services.

Surfboards and bicycles are not permitted on Transperth buses.

A fundraiser this Sunday!

Featuring ace local hip hop

Recent devastation in Burma (Myanmar) due to a cyclone and tsunami has left over 20,000 people dead and affected hundreds of thousands more. The notoriously corrupt military government has been secretive about the actual casualty figures, and current estimates greatly exceed the official figure of 22,500. Those suffering the worst effects of the cyclone are the poor and needy. Though initially unwilling to receive foreign aid, Burma is now becoming more receptive to help for its thousands of sick, injured and displaced citizens.

In support of these relief efforts, The Community is presenting a night of live hip hop and beats with all proceeds going to providing vital resources such as food, clothing and medical supplies for those affected by the cyclone. Proceeds are also going towards the International Youth for Human Rights movement to help promote human rights in this country, where human rights abuses are an everyday occurrence.

The night will feature RTR DJ Ben Taafe, Local MCs Rooftop and MC Able, and the hip hop bonanza that is Diger Rockwell. Plus some very special surprise guests. This will be a night to remember, with the hottest local hiphop talent convening at 459 from 6-10pm this Sunday the 11^th for the best of causes. Who needs a reason as good as this to check out some great local music? Not you. Come down, bring a rich friend, drink some beer, and feel good all week.

Fremantle Train Line - service disruption

Fremantle Line - service disruption

Effective: 20 - 26 March 2008

Transperth train services between Daglish and Fremantle will be cancelled from the evening of Thursday 20 March until the first service on Wednesday 26 March 2008 due to infrastructure works.

The last Fremantle Line trains on Thursday evening will be:

to Fremantle departing Perth at 7.00pm

to Perth departing Fremantle at 7.31pm

Train replacement bus service 906 will pick up commuters between Daglish and Fremantle at the train replacement stops near train stations while services are cancelled. Normal train services will run between Perth and Daglish.

Saturday 22 March: Train Replacement Services for West Coast Eagles v Brisbane Lions

On Saturday 22 March, additional train replacement services will be provided for the West Coast Eagles v Brisbane Lions match at Subiaco Oval.

These services will begin two hours before bouncedown, from 3.40pm, and run via the normal train replacement route from Fremantle to Daglish then run via Railway Rd, Roberts Rd to set down outside Subiaco Oval. Last service will depart at 5.00pm.

The return trips will operate from the train replacement stop outside West Leederville Station and run express to Daglish Station and then via normal train replacement route to Fremantle Station. Last buses depart 30 minutes after the match.

Football patrons please note that there will not be any additional train replacement buses provided at Subiaco Station and they must use the train replacement stop at West Leederville Station.

Train services - Tuesday 25 March

Passengers are asked to note that there will be no train services between Daglish and Fremantle on Tuesday 25 March 2008, which is not a public holiday. Train replacement service 906 will pick up commuters between Fremantle and Daglish at the train replacement stops near train stations. Passengers, especially those travelling during peak periods, are likely to experience heavy loading on these services and so they should allow extra travelling time.

Additional ferry service - Tuesday 25 March

Rottnest Express will operate a service between Fremantle (C Shed) and Perth. this service is free of charge and will operate as follows:

Boarding 7.15 am	Departing C Shed 7.30am	Arrive Barrack St Jetty 8.15am
Boarding 5.45pm	Departing Barrack St Jetty 6.00pm	Arrive C Shed 6.45pm

Normal services will resume with the start of services on Wednesday 26 March 2008.

Passengers should allow extra travelling time and be aware that train replacement buses may not connect with normal bus and train services. Surfboards and bicycles are not permitted on Transperth buses.

Melville Theatre Company is in great need of three male actors for its April production of David Williamson's Money and Friends.

Director Joan Scafe is seeking two males in their 40s and one male in his late 50s - these are stage ages.

David Williamson is one of Australia’s best-known playwrights – Money and Friends is an exploration of four couples escaping the city for a weekend, a bunch of diverse characters brought together as friends because of circumstance.

The Tomato Festival

The time’s almost ripe for the fourth annual Fremantle Tomato Fest on Friday February 29, featuring pomme d’amour galore.

A special event, featured as part of the Fremantle Village Art Market in Kings Square, it’s a chance to celebrate these juicy “love apples” (as the French say) and the sensational sauces made from them.

From 11am, there will be plenty of free tastings and demonstrations on how to make the best pasta with Fremantle Mayor Peter Tagliaferri on hand to dish out the goods from 12.30pm.

There’s also a tomato-throwing competition and entertainment from the Flying Carpathians and the Commedia Academy’s Antonio and Giovanni, plus free tomato seeds, making a grand finale for the last day of summer.

The Fremantle Tomato Fest is supported by Cicerello’s, the Fremantle Garden Centre, Organic Collective, Galati & Sons and the City of Fremantle

Smoking Ban

IN a WA local government first, the City of Fremantle has introduced a smoking ban in outdoor eating areas, effective from February 15, applying to alfresco dining areas across all its suburbs.

From February 15, business proprietors need to ensure at least half of their outdoor eating areas are set aside as non-smoking – the new laws will then apply for the whole area from August 15.

The Million Puppet Project

The Million Puppet Project needs every ones help. They are working towards setting a new Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Puppet Display at the Perth Concert Hall for the 20th UNIMA Congress & World Puppetry Festival during 2 – 12 April 2008. A million puppets is lot of puppets, so come and join in the puppet fun and help us make this record come to fruition.

They are running a series of four FREE puppet making workshops, on Saturday afternoons from 23 February, for 13 year olds and over. Come to one or come to all. the tutors are fantastic and these workshops will be fun.

Australia Day Trading

Although Australia Day falls on Saturday, January 26, it will be regular Saturday trading for retail outlets.
Normal trading hours in the Perth metropolitan area on Saturday 26 January are 8am to 5pm.
Monday, January 28, has been deemed a public holiday and under the Retail Trading Hours Act only stores with an exemption to trade on public holidays will be allowed to open.

Clipper Race yachts head to WA

Fremantle will come alive with Clipper fever this Christmas with the arrival this week of competitors in the 35,000 nautical mile Clipper International Yacht Race.

Tourism Minister Sheila McHale said the 10 yachts taking part in the 2007-08 race were expected to arrive in Fremantle around December 16 and stopover for two weeks.
